The Project
6 More London is a major riverside office building of approximately 200,000 sq ft across 9 floors, positioned within the established More London estate at London Bridge. At 6 More London, we’ve delivered the sustainable retrofit and repositioning of a significant commercial building, carefully reworking it to support the expectations of a modern workplace while retaining the structure at its core. The works bring together a comprehensive upgrade of the office floors, reception and common areas, alongside enhanced end of journey facilities and the introduction of new external balcony terraces overlooking the Thames. The building has been reworked with care to improve environmental performance, operational efficiency and user experience, extending its lifecycle through a considered retrofit approach.
Opening the Building to the River
A key part of the transformation has been the introduction of new external balconies, bringing private outdoor space to the workplace for the first time. These terraces extend the use of the building outward, creating moments of pause and connection to the river beyond. Their addition also required careful structural coordination within the constraints of the existing frame, integrating new elements without compromising the integrity of the original building. The result is a building that feels more open, more connected, and more attuned to its setting.
A Considered Retrofit Approach
The wider works focus on upgrading the building’s fabric and services to improve efficiency and long term performance. Rather than replacing, the strategy has been to retain and enhance where possible, improving energy performance, upgrading systems and reducing embodied carbon through reuse of the existing structure. It is a careful balance, modernising the building while respecting the value of what is already there and extending its lifespan in a more sustainable way.
Life within a Live Estate
Located within the active More London estate, delivery required careful coordination with ongoing operations across the wider campus. Access, sequencing and stakeholder management were critical to ensuring the building remained functional and the surrounding environment uninterrupted throughout the works. This approach allowed the retrofit to progress smoothly within a complex, occupied urban setting
It has been a great project and enjoyed working with the 8build team.
