3 Sheldon Square – Highly Commended at the 2025 SFE Awards

We’re proud to share that 3 Sheldon Square has been Highly Commended in the Sustainability (UK) category at the 2025 Society of Façade Engineering (SFE) Awards.

Delivered for British Land, and in collaboration with Morris+Company and Arup, this project exemplifies what smart retrofit can achieve – retaining and upgrading much of the existing façade to extend its life by more than 15 years, while making significant strides in reducing embodied carbon and improving building performance.

Through innovative façade engineering, the team retained the original curtain wall system — including glazing, gaskets, and frames – integrating new balcony structures directly within the existing envelope. These bold additions provide valuable outdoor amenity space, enhance wellness and shading, and introduce biodiverse planting that contributes to improved air quality.
Upgrading to an all-electric energy system, including air source heat pumps, has reduced operational energy demand by over 40%, achieving an embodied carbon figure of just 122 kgCO₂/sqm.

This commendation from the SFE Awards celebrates the collaborative effort between all project partners and reinforces the power of sustainable retrofit – demonstrating how thoughtful design and construction can unlock new life in existing structures, delivering long-term environmental and social value.
